It’s been almost a month since I received the iPhone 13 Pro, and I think it’s time to tell you how it feels if I regret changing my iPhone 12 Pro, and more importantly if I think it was worth it.
First, I must note that I use my iPhone without a case. Instead, I have been using leather that I bought online to avoid dents and scratches. I also decided not to use a screen protector this time as the bare screen feels so much better than with a plastic layer over it, plus it only costs $ 29 to replace with AppleCare +.
Let’s move on to the screen. It is amazing in some ways, but not in others.
Apple iPhone 13 Pro in review
The screen
At first, I didn’t notice the ProMotion technology, and to be honest, I still haven’t noticed. However, when I look at my old iPhone or iPad, it seems that those devices are running at 24Hz, and my current iPhone 13 Pro is running at 60Hz. Strange. I don’t know if everyone reacted this way, but I certainly did.
Some friends tested the screen themselves. I gave them my iPhone 12 Pro and asked them if it worked smoothly, and they all said yes. When I gave them the 13 Pro, they said it was as smooth as the 12 Pro. Then I gave them the 12 Pro again, and they said it didn’t look good at all. I don’t know why this happens, but it happens. I suspect it has to do with how strange the human brain is.
Anyway, Apple claims that the brightness of the iPhone is better than that of the iPhone 12 Pro, but I don’t notice it either. Apple also says that this screen is the most durable they have ever made. Mine hasn’t broken yet, and I hope it never does, but it already has a pretty big scratch on it, and that’s not exactly nice to see when you look at the new iPhone that you just paid $ 999 for.
And don’t get me wrong, I think it’s the best screen I’ve ever seen, and I also understand that if you want it to be more unbreakable, the materials used have to be softer and therefore more susceptible to scratches. Apple made a decision here, and I think it was the right one.
Battery duration
Amazing. That’s all I can say about the iPhone 13 Pro’s battery. It helps me get through the day. Always. The only thing I have to complain about is how hot it can get. Sometimes I had to put the phone in my pocket and let it rest because I literally couldn’t even hold it. More on this topic of heat later.
Cameras
This is usually what Apple stands out the most when marketing the Pro lineup. And to be honest, I don’t think this was an upgrade to my iPhone 12 Pro.
Yes, the images and videos look great, no question about it, but most of the time, I struggle to find any difference from the photos I took with my previous iPhone.
The 3x optical zoom is something I hardly use. I haven’t used Kinematic mode since I got the phone, and the preset filters are great, but that’s just software.
Macro is great to play with, but I only use it for fun.
What I will say is that the iPhone 13 Pro is better in Night Mode. Sure, my 12 Pro was good, but the 13 Pro’s sensor is amazing.
A15 Bionic
This chip is a real beast. And I thought it was weird because Apple didn’t market it that way. They kept comparing it to Android phone chips and not the A14 Bionic as they usually do, so I thought it was pretty much the same. However, I found that applications launch much faster, games perform better, and applications that require GPU power perform much better than on the 12 Pro.
Overheating problems
I’m sure I’m not the only one saying that this iPhone overheats frequently. I’ve seen it over and over on Twitter and other social media. Most people agree that it has a lot to do with the software and that a future update will fix the problem. Let’s hope for the best, but two updates later, the issue still doesn’t seem to have been resolved.
I must say that this is not the best upgrade I have ever purchased. I think the iPhone 12 Pro was a more solid update than this one. But don’t get me wrong, I like it, I don’t regret buying it, and I think it was worth it.
The cameras are exceptional, the battery life is incredible, the screen is impressive; I don’t think it’s worth updating your iPhone every year unless you’re an Apple nerd like me.
If you want to buy it, go for it – it’s a great device, and you’ll love it. The only problem is the heat issue, but I think it will be solved with future software updates so that I wouldn’t worry about that.
The Apple iPhone 13 Pro is already in our office and next in line for a review. It is the successor to the iPhone 12 Pro, but it is closer to the Max, unlike last year’s model.
Like the rest of Apple’s 12 and 13 lineups, the iPhone 13 Pro comes in a plain box with a USB-C to Lightning cable, a SIM eject tool, and an Apple tag. However, certain carrier and retail promotions will see early buyers rewarded with Apple’s 20W charger as a bonus.
Last year’s iPhone 12 Pro lacked Max’s larger main camera and slightly wider zoom camera. This year’s Pro is almost identical to the Pro Max, with a smaller screen and battery.
Share the superior features of the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The 6.1-inch LTPO AMOLED screen is compatible with ProMotion 120Hz, and the A15 Bionic chip is accompanied by 6GB of RAM instead of the 4GB of the normal 13.
It’s the same story with cameras: the Pro has a new 12MP f / 1.5 main camera with a larger sensor and 1.9 µm effective pixels, 12MP 3x f / 2.8 zoom camera, and 13mm f autofocus. / 1.8 ultrawide with macro capabilities.
We found all three to be very capable in our iPhone 13 Pro Max review, and we’ll certainly see identical results.
It would be interesting to see if the iPhone 13 Pro lasts longer on a charge than the iPhone 13, which scored an endurance rating of 89 hours in our review. The Pro has a bit more battery life, and Apple claims it should have better battery life.
